Genre/DISTINCT:
Setting- By researching into typical horror settings it helped us to select a few parts of the trailer. We will include a part of when they are in the woods. This fits the conventions of horror as it gives it that eerie effect. Also there will be clips of our main character being locked in a dark cellar place. This is typical of a horror because its dark and secluded.
Technical code- This is all about the use of camera. A lot of close ups need to be used, as well as shots of people in the distance because this is typical of horror films. Also we need to show these clips with pace, as it builds up throughout the trailer.
Iconography- We will follow the typical iconography as we will have weapons such a rope and a knife, which is usual for a horror film. Also the lighting will be low key, which will make the atmosphere more scary.
Themes- The main theme that we focused on were Good Vs Evil. This is a typical theme for horror because it shows the contrast between the good and bad characters. In our case the stalker is the evil and the victim will be the good.
Narrative: Our film will follow Todorov's narrative 'classic Hollywood narrative'. It will begin on an equilibrium, which will soon be disrupted by a problem (in our case, the stalker causing mayhem). The thing that we haven't followed is the resolution at the end. We have left it on a cliff hanger as to whether the main character dies or in fact stays alive and escapes her stalker.
Representations: In our trailer we have two different representations of woman. We have got an innocent and naive character (the victim), and then we have an evil, manipulative character(the stalker).
The victim in this is the typical dumb blondes that you get in movies and you generally know the outcome of her character; she will die.
Audiences & Institutions: For this I looked at how the woman in back was marketed because it had such a widespread release and was a very popular movie. We will produce trailers, poster and be on magazine covers as a hope to attract an audience.
In terms of our own audience research we found that psychological horror is the most popular, this being why ours is based around that. Also we found out that they like the stereotypical parts of horror such as blood, and death so we will incorporate this into ours.
