Synopsis: A journalist, Matt, hears about a secluded building out in the countryside. Trying to save his job as a journalist, he wants to check it out and write a report on the situation. It is known that anyone who enters the forest of the asylum doesn't return but its all or nothing for Matt. He's determined to get some answers whilst hoping for a job promotion in the long run.
Taking a crew of fellow reporters and journalists, Matt sets out into the country to find the abandoned asylum. As they draw nearer to the area it becomes even more clearer that the entire neighbouring village of the forest is desolate. Not all of the crew want to carry on but for Matt this could mean everything. On arrival, problems soon start to occur.
Kelly is the first of the group to disappear, shortly followed by 3 others. As things develop, Matt starts to fear his life and regrets his choice to carry on as he's one of the only two left. Surrounded by paranormal encounters, it is soon discovered that the ex-mental patients from the asylum are back to haunt the place and to seek revenge for being locked up. Matt and Rochelle have to overcome a number of obstacles to try escape, but can they make it out alive and find the others? Was the whole ordeal worth sacrificing their lives?
Setting: My idea would be set in an abandoned place in the middle of a forest. This would mean its in a secluded area which will give it a dark and eerie atmosphere. The building will be an ex-mental asylum so there will be hospital-like equipment within the building.
Character profiles: My main character in the film will be Matt. He will be a struggling journalist around the age of 25. Trying to earn enough money to keep his family afloat he feels pressured into reporting on the abandoned asylum.
My second character will be Rochelle. She is a fellow journalist who has all the characteristics of a 'final girl'. Along with Matt, she's relying on getting a report about the asylum to keep her job safe.
A further character will be Kelly. She will be a typical naive, blonde girl who doesn't really pay attention to her surroundings. It becomes clear that she isn't keen on being in the isolated conditions and gets frightened very easily.
Another significant character is Bill. He plays a key role in discovering the truth about the asylum and what happens there. He is the brainiac of the group who they rely on to overcome some of the earlier scenarios.
Target Audience: The target audience for this will be for people interested in paranormal horror films. This is because it will contain mystery and general conventions of that genre of horror. Also it will appeal more to teenagers and people roughly between the ages of 16-30. This is due to it being largely paranormal based so older generations may overlook the story as they are less likely to believe in ghosts, spirits, etc.
